Innocent

That place in the woods under the open sky

Has felt the abuse of time
And like needles discarded without a thought or care
Our innocence will stay there

The graffiti we carved into the bridge balustrade
The winds of time have erased
As the river flows our innocence goes
In the current, it floats away

The leaves are turning grey
Shadows begin to fade
As the hands of time pull us farther away
The view in front of me is fading away
And being replaced with all this decay

Pill bottles and apathy
Overcome everything
Preventing the innocent
From becoming
Old souls with broken dreams
Giving in to anything
Promising an escape
From reality

As the years go by
I think we'll realize
We all burned that place down

All the things that we tried
Try as we might
Couldn't put the fire out

And now the wood is splintered
And dirt has taken over the
Ground we once stood
Back when we were just kids
And i have to believe
That there is always a chance
To come back from the edge

These kids are all aboard a sinking ship
With holes in it for which they don't bear blame
And every innocent mistake they make adds weight
That they can't carry

Pill bottles and apathy
Overcome everything
Preventing these kids
From becoming
Old souls with broken dreams
Giving in to anything
Promising an escape
From reality

Born in light
Painted black
Doused in green
And drowned in "I'm not coming back
To the river burning south"

Open the gates
Let me sing
Always compensate
For lack of jokes and rings
Always sour in my mouth

Walk with me
Carefully
Wrap this collar
Tight around your throat and
Touch the red just like your insides
When God is broken

With rope no more
On vacant sores
Never biding on your hands and knees and
Never wavering
For all the coffins made
Without the hemeostasis
