Tender Loving Care

Some things may happen in a child's life
That can be out of their control
They might even have made a big mistake
It did not help what they heard in one home

When parents split at a kid's early age
Things can still move along
But their opinion of the other parent can change
When one acts like the other does not belong

It may not have been too bad at all
They might understand more when they're older
Though one does not wish them to reconsider
It could even be something Oedipal

You don't know what your daddy did
You don't know who your mama is
It's worse when you're an adult and one says
You'll never know all they put me through, kid

Well guess what, that was their relationship
And that was past, not even present
Sometimes you have to gather on your own
This is harder when your brain has not grown

It could be they left as they should have
Toxic it was, or they were too different
Maybe they had your best interest
Until one or both wanted you to pick a side to sit

Times now are obviously new
Only you can choose what to do
You don't need one or the other
You need you, and not needing to keep it undercover
