Lady Grey

She walked into the open arms
Of a city laced in grey
Her shadow fell upon the farms
Feet heavy as they tread

She lassoed up those city folks
With a clicking of her tongue
And made their dreams vermilion
And blackened by the sun

In our lost lonely cage
In the absence of grace
We were shadows
In our trust uniteth
For the faithful mind is
Circles five by art

For my Lady Grey

A sighting at the city gates
Was not enough to scare
Though children lay awake in bed
Her name they do not dare

To ricochet her memory
And drag it through the mud
Her name like nightmare reverie
To curse the royal blood

In his sleep he would stray
To the place where she lay
Bloody fingers
In her grave she remains
But the ghost of her pain
It will linger he screams

The morning came in mockery
A guilty sky in grey
The sun rose up like Calgary
Lit where the bodies lay
I come to claim their innocence
For my sister and my son
My love will wander back to me
And all my sorrows one
