Maybe

She wanders through the springtime
Weaving webs of fantasy
Wishing wishes maybe he'll come back tonight
There's a shadow in the darkness
And there's a shadow in her eyes
As she whispers maybe he'll come back tonight

In the town the lights shine brightly
From the fairground in the park
Music can be heard for miles around
But what about tomorrow
When the fair has travelled on
Where has all the love and laughter gone?

She feels the need to talk to him
And open up her heart
Say the words she wanted to before
But pride had snatched them back from her
And flung them far away
Preventing her from asking him to stay

On the hill the ancient monument
Silhouettes the sky
It's as solid as a rock the saying goes
But the monument is a ruin now
A relic of the past
Like life and love it was never meant to last
