I'm Just a Guy
At the same time that you should grow a heart you should also grow a backbone
And not let people step on either
Some people wish we could do away with religion
Others say science cannot answer it all
Be like Jesus I might agree
But which version does your mind believe
How can the common man find truth
If it's often said the first step is outside you
Did life or God want it all to be complex
Each book or version its own vortex
And I'm just trying to get the mail
I'm trying to have sex
I ate another decent meal
This time it was an easy shit
I'm still told by some to follow The Spirit
That part of God lives inside
So truth for me dwells within
Should it have to match a certain religion
We now have so many denominations
We now have so many cults
So many believe they are the right one
I guess everything has its faults
Science does its best to explain it
But close your mind and it's like magic
I have no answer, born not equipped
No time for just one or each book, is what it is
But I can rule out what does not resonate with me
I can ignore what makes me less free
Do not persuade me at my door step
Rather you leave me be
You can do what's good for others and you
Taking wise proverbs, making the whole book true
Though I wish the second weren't the case
To me it's tangled up a mess in this place
So much has been changed, rearranged
After trees chopped down, words were too on the page
Stories are still useful in some
All books literally rotate around the sun
And not let people step on either
Some people wish we could do away with religion
Others say science cannot answer it all
Be like Jesus I might agree
But which version does your mind believe
How can the common man find truth
If it's often said the first step is outside you
Did life or God want it all to be complex
Each book or version its own vortex
