Dantes's Monologue from the Count of Monte Cristo

A drip of water like a clock
Telling me the time
A drip of water
Passing through
Reminding me of freedom

A few days
A week in darkness
So short and yet how time drags on

How can I let that compare the nineteen of years of light I've had
To all that the world's still holding out there
Waiting for me
My father
Mercedes
I love them and they love me
I will hold onto them
Their love will see me through my storm

A drip of water
Like a voice
Taunting from world outside
A drip of water
No friendly face
For I have been forgotten

Months now
More than a year has passed
And no word from the world outside
My father
Mercedes
I am all alone

No! I'm never truly alone
If man has forgotten me
I shall hold to God
As I remember him
God can hear my prayer

Forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who

A drip of water
Like the rain
To wash away my hate
A drip of water
Nothing more
Too small to keep me clean

Oh God! How can I forgive
My faceless foes who shut me up these years
And why forgive

A free man grants forgiveness
For hatred wastes his strength
But my strength wastes already
Idle in this cell

No. I will not forgive

My vengeance shall give life to me
With it I cling to reason
And if I'm freed this hell on earth
I'll make the world a hell on earth
For those who put me here

A drip of water
Like my foes
To clear and oh so small
This drip of water
Will be no longer
When I escape from here
