Heart Check (Written Letters, Pt. 2)

Why do we feel the need to be better than the person in the next seat?
To the point where we wouldn't even offer them our own seat
Because in our eyes in taking that stand, all we would see is the defeat
Instead of being happy for our friends when they succeed
We get consumed with envy and jealousy
We see something our friend has and now crave it more than ever
We want what we have plus what they have added altogether
Eat our own cake and have their's too
Because our hearts are filled with displeasure

We lie with ease to fulfill our dreams
Is it that we don't believe they can be achieved
Without pulling a couple tricks up our sleeves?
We package our lies so perfectly to portray that we are perfect packages when perceived
We put on a performance to convince others of a persona we're not
That makes us actors and actresses
Truth is, we've all had insecurities
Sharing them is not compulsory
But when we all cover them up we form a false reality
A world were the standards are too hard to reach
Where our human errors and natural faults are seen as a disease

Why do we get blinded by our own bliss that we don't see other's pain?
We're in a room full of people laughing and having fun
But there's a person in the corner sitting without anyone
No one feels touched to ask them
"What's going on?"
Simple conversations
That can make a person feel like they belong
We assume that's their nature
"Oh, she's the quiet one"
And we move along
What happens if what we've assumed is wrong?
The chance to make someone's day better is gone

God forgives us daily and we struggle with it
We hold grudges so close to our hearts
Now there's a knife in our chest
If our hearts are too heavy
There's no way we can be at our best
We'll just end up being depressed
We have to learn to let go of the things that keep us oppressed
Hand them to God who can give us a rest

We need to let Jesus take the wheel and hold it "ten to two"
He simplified the Highway Code to heaven, from ten to two
Show love to each other and love Him too
If we don't show love to our neighbours
It's God we've been rude to
