Nocturnal

I feel your heartbeat shake my bedsheets
Regardless of whose bed I'm sleeping in

And even when I shed the sheets that shroud me
You show your face in the darkness that surrounds me

Your features perceivable on the crumpled black canvas
I can't stand this

If I'm left to illustrate the dark of the room
Then the pictures I make are bound to be you

If I open my window to release my inability to sleep
I can just about, above the asthmatic air of the streets
Perceive you breathing in and out

And how can I respire when I'm forced to
Seal the room in order to escape the sounds of you?

And it hurts my head to get back into bed
With sheets that are colder than you
And it makes me wheeze to go over these
Words and know that they won't change a thing

Our death hath murdered sleep
