Sacred Lives

Home sweet home, hoping for home sweet home
For the end of this journey I must travel alone
With her standing tall, her gaze, black hair flowing in the air
And a very sturdy home, that can't get hit by drone

And if I was face to face with Trump and Assaad
I'd sacrifice them to the most unforgiving god
And if I could put that arrogant bastard Putin in his proper place
And if I could replace every dollar bill with Malala's face

And if I could burn the hijabs and burkas of my sisters
And if I could heal all of the gunman's blisters
If I set fire to it all
Wouldn't the whole world join me and fall?

And if my year abroad didn't give me such ideas
And if I stayed over there than coming back here
And if I was that drone, numb patrolling skies
And if I was one of those protected, sacred lives

Maybe I wouldn't have died
