Distant Pages

Does the wind blow fast where you're going?
There's a question I'll ask without knowing
Will it fall into your ears, like a key into a lock
And will it open? And will it open?
Or just keep flowing on past, through the currents through the grass
Till the memories fade at last into the ocean

If the flame flickers low, will you shelter?
When you're miles from letting go, will you remember?
The smell of sulfur stings from a match struck in the spring
Now it's September
How do you heal an aching heart, or a burn that touch will smart
Hold it close or time apart I have no answer

To have courage and be bold, and welcome changes
And let this path before unfold to higher ranges
Insecurities I've had, I'll gently let go from my bag
Of cherished stages
I'll return myself to me, with open arms I come to thee
Lead by my heart I know I'll see your distant pages
