Part Shadow

Winter's cold, like his hands
But she is warm like Egyptian sands
Breezes drifting through my dreams
She wanders the marshes behind the wood
Collecting mushroom for her food
I search for her
But he follows

And then he calls for me
And he tells me where I belong
And then I call for her
But she is long gone

These days it's hard
To escape from the wheel
But I'm sure I can hear her
When I pray and kneel
Singing behind the abbey walls
I imagine her there
With her glorious hair
Tying it around, and around, and around, and around, and around
The golden roses

And then he calls for me
And he tells me where I belong
And then I call for her
But she is long gone

But I find her footprints
When I awake
And I'm sure I've seen her bathing
In the lily lake
I tell myself she is part shadow
And I've never been able to make it heard
No, I've never been able to speak a word
I've always been so shy

But still, I call for her
At night
He says I'm foolish
Like a bird without flight

Soon I will be dead
And my hair will be black
They'll dig a hole and bury me
Upon my back

And he won't call for me
And maybe I'll be free
But I'll still call for her
And maybe
And maybe
And maybe, she'll come to me
