Sad Porpoise Noises
We saw them falling
We saw them fall and didn't care
They'll never be again
We doomed every one of them
And when it's time to take the blame
We'll hide away
And pretend we did ok with no shame
A small cetacean
Crying sad porpoise noises in the rain
Is taken to a boat
By a gillnet it is slain
But it's just bycatch
They didn't even wanna have it
They were after the swimming bladders of another dying breed
Too little too late we took a stand for what is right
We like to act in the nick of time
But it takes time to win a fight
Because locked down in the Sea of Cortez
The vaquita doesn't stand a chance
But it's not too late to keep the others safe
From the warming sun and the rigs of oil
Another morning
Mr. fisherman awakes and his fishing net prepares
He's out for totoaba
That's priced higher than cocaine
And he's got mouths to feed, in a world of greed
What else is he to do?
But when the sunlight dies and the night arrives
In his net too many lives
Too little too late we took a stand for what is right
We like to act in the nick of time
But it takes time to win a fight
Because locked down in the Sea of Cortez
The vaquita doesn't stand a chance
But it's not too late to keep the others safe
From the warming sun and the rigs of oil
(Procrastination took its toll)
Just take it as a wake-up call
(This kind of things we can prevent)
And we'll keep fighting
(No more aims for close enough)
'Cause close enough is not enough
(And we might find a brighter day)
It is not over
We saw them fall and didn't care
They'll never be again
We doomed every one of them
And when it's time to take the blame
We'll hide away
And pretend we did ok with no shame
A small cetacean
Crying sad porpoise noises in the rain
