If That Ain't Country

I grew up on County Road 220 Southwest
In a lower middle class house
Not too many neighbors around
Daddy worked for the county crew
And Momma worked for the paper at the Daily News
On Main Street up in town

The Red White and Blue flew in our front yard
and a good dog slept in a kennel out by the barn

Man if that ain't country
Well I don't know what is
And man you might think it's funny
But that's how we lived
We didn't have a lot
But always had enough
Back when I was a kid
And man if that ain't country
Well I don't know what is

Summer time it was fishin' creeks
5 gallon buckets of snipped green beans
Down window screen on every screen door
And winter time when it got cold
We kept warm with a burnin' stove
Wood stacked up as tall as me on the front porch

The Red White and Blue flew in our front yard
and a good dog slept in a kennel out by the barn

Man if that ain't country
Well I don't know what is
And man you might think it's funny
But that's how we lived
We didn't have a lot
But always had enough
Back when I was a kid
And man if that ain't country
Well I don't know what is

Well I don't know what is

The Red White and Blue still flies in that front yard
and a damn good dog's buried back behind that barn

Man if that ain't country
Well I don't know what is
And man you might think it's funny
But that's how we lived
We didn't have a lot
But always had enough
Back when I was a kid
And man if that ain't country
Well I don't know what is

Well I don't know what is

I grew up on County Road 220 Southwest
In a lower middle class house
Not too many neighbors around
