Letter to My Past
What
YBT
Twelve years old couldn't wait to ball
My brother was seventeen we running with the OGs
Young and reckless
Blunts for breakfast
In the city where the young teens always pregnant
Des Moines IA
Flamboyant young niggaz rims grills and neckless
Pride possessions
Turf politicians that hold court with weapons if any disrespecting
And as the guns blaze
Another teen lays in that woodgrain
Cuz its a hood thang
Many try many die thats what Nas says
Our full time job was packing nines and bundles of anythang like weed pills and novacane
We was all about that money mane
But I was slipping
Tripping I had to dip out and switch routes
So Im writing you this letter to tell you Im doing better baby its a new day
And thankful that my yesterdays ain't my todays ayyy
I'm writing you this letter to tell you I'm doing better
We had our chapter its over its done or whatever
However no matter how much you come up in my life
You will always and forever be
A memory of my past
I cant go on with you
Yet you give me what I need to write a song of you
You belong to me
And I belong to you
You will always and forever be
A memory of my past
At age eighteen I was chasing cream
No jobs in my city I was dream chasing
Selling my cds plus I had them fire trees
And I had them buck shots for any boy wan test me
Cause i was at war with my own in the same city i was born in
Rise and shine
I got it in early in the morning
And I kept them drugs and them guns in my moms crib
But I never sold a crumb up out my moms crib
I just bought that winchester in at night
For protection
Cause niggaz was wetting houses like Sandy and Katrina victums
And I be damn if somebody caught us slippin listen
But I was trippin
Slippin I had to dip out and switch routes
So Im writing you this letter to tell you Im doing better baby
Its a new day
And Im thankful that my yesterdays ain't my todays ayyy
I'm writing you this letter to tell you I'm doing better
We had our chapter its over its done or whatever
However no matter how much you come up in my life
You will always and forever be
A memory of my past
I cant go on with you
Yet you give me what I need to write a song of you
You belong to me
And I belong to you
You will always and forever be
A memory of my past
At Age twenty two is when I first fell in love
We moved in together after only two months
We fought then we fuss
We fuss then we fuck
Was it love or was it lust
I don't know so pass the blunt
Cause twenty three was a sight to see
Death bed life support machines working for me
Family praying doctors waiting ventilator to breathe
In a coma for sixteen Im living proof that God is real if you don't believe
Open your eyes and realize what you had is a king
No more stressing Im a blessing for the world to see
What I'm reciting is my life I pray the world can see
Small city big dreams
And I been fluent with the music since fifteen
Im twenty five now still waiting to take a bow
And I wrote this letter to my past to tell you how Im doing right now
Better than ever without a shadow of a doubt
I'm writing you this letter to tell you I'm doing better
We had our chapter its over its done or whatever
However no matter how much you come up in my life
You will always and forever be
A memory of my past
I cant go on with you
Yet you give me what I need to write a song of you
You belong to me
And I belong to you
You will always and forever be
A memory of my past
