Looking Like the Enemy

There's no telling
If things'll ever change
Us hurting each other, time and time again
But for now, my big concern is
To make it to tomorrow
Where I'm not judged
For the way I look to them
And to them, I may look like I'm strong and wild
And that's just the way I want it to be
Instead of them sensing a weakness to exploit
Because I'm
Looking like the enemy

They say there is no separation here anymore
There's no caste lives and that biased bigotry is gone
And that is so easy to say if you're the privileged
Or oblivious to what's
Really going on
They can go where they want, see and do what they will
And look with little more than a dull interest in me
But I can't help the way things are right now
Or the fact that I'm
Looking like the enemy

Stereotypes, prejudices, discrimination and such
They fuel racism and hatred from anothers past
They don't know me, my passions; who I really am
They only know of what they see standing in their path

There's no telling
If anything will ever change
But here we're hurting each other because of some father's sin
So for now my big hope is to get
To a time and place
Where I won't be judged for the color of my skin
And to you, I might look like I'm the menace
A threat
It's a real drag to be the one striped of dignity
And I'm reduced to keeping a low profile, and
In my own town
It's all because I'm
Looking like the enemy
Looking like the enemy
