The Tree

All these years I've been growing since I was just a little seed
Waiting for the day my momma used to tell me about
How the day'd come finally and I'd go home with a family some chilly Christmas Eve
Well, look at this: two young faces standing in front of me giggling, so happily
Saying "We think this just may be one that we've been searching for
Do you think it will fit through our door?"
And I thought to myself

I will stand so tall, I will stand so proud
And I'll hold the ornaments of sweet dreams dancing round
And I'll glisten in the sun, reflect the pale moonlight
If you'll let me be your tree tonight

Now, two older faces stand in front of me, giggling so happily
Baby on the way, they're wondering "Is this the tree that we've been searching for
And can we drag it up three floors?"
And I thought to myself

I will stand so tall, I will stand so proud
And I'll hold the ornaments of memories you'll pass down
And I'll glisten in the sun, reflect the pale moonlight, if you'll let me be your tree tonight.

And now an old man walks slowly up to me so tenderly
His dear wife used to do this sort of thing, you see
He says "Now, it's up to me."
But he smiles and says "Yes! I think you just may be
The kind of tree that she would want to stand for our family
Yes, you're the one indeed!"

And I stood so tall, and I stood so proud
And I held the ornaments of true love he once found
And I glistened in the sun, reflected the moonlight
See, he let me be his tree tonight

And I stood so tall, and I stood so proud
And I held the ornaments of true hope always found
And I glistened in the sun, reflected the moonlight
See, he let me be his tree... oh, I finally got to be
See, he picked me for his tree tonight
