Brooks Was Here

Hours turn to days to weeks
Feeling faint as I grow weak
My heartbeat the only sound
I choke this rotten air down
Throat is torn from endless thirst
Lungs are full, about to burst
Fighting to feel any thing
I refuse to let mysef sink

I dug my way out from a shallow grave
And Zihuatenejo called to me
I swam miles through a river of shit
And came out clean on the other side

Scrape and claw with all my might
Inch by inch I pray for light
Forging forward, eyes ahead
Thunder guides me overhead
Finally the hell subsides
The surface and my face collide
As rain washes over me
For the first time I am free

I dug my way out from a shallow grave
And Zihuatenejo called to me
I swam for miles through a river of shit
And came out clean on the other side

No one would make a fuss
Not for a crook like me
So I choose to face my fear
Under a carving that says "Brooks was here"
