Natchez Trace
On a two lane highway in the delta Uncle Paul met his fate
Driving up the old Natchez Trace
Marianne was a beauty queen who lived across the street
That year she won the pageant, Mobley couldn't be beat
The whole town was blowing up, Paul was out til 4am
He did himself some drinking, smoked his Picayune cigarettes
And right there on the roadside
Uncle Paul met his fate
Driving up the old Natchez Trace
He met Camille and Louise there at 7:38
He headed for his sisters though he'd be pretty late
Bernie and the boys would be there, sister Sarah too
Out there in Wynona where my family lost it's rule
And right there on the roadside
Uncle Paul met his fate
Driving up the old Natchez Trace
And the last thing he saw was the blur of the stars
And then all of a sudden everything went dark
He started drifting off around 8:01 am
He left the road a couple times, he left it once again
His car flipped upside down and landed in a ditch
Where the Kudzu had claimed him because the soil was black and rich
And right there on the roadside
Uncle Paul met his fate
Driving up the old Natchez Trace
And the last thing he saw was the blur of the stars
And then all of a sudden everything went dark
Driving up the old Natchez Trace
Marianne was a beauty queen who lived across the street
