Softly in the Rain

Puddles form in this soft fall shower, the evening's sweat dripped on the earth to drain
Cloudburst, cold front, facade, blends together
Covers up the sun
Empty cities under watch of the moon, the waiter, surveyor, the lonely
Every drop is a breath of life to me, but wears down the veil that hides us all
From each other

How I wish the day was here when we could still be out
Laughing just the two of us
Softly in the rain
Times have changed I don't know you you don't know me and that's the way it's meant to be
Apparently

The color inside me starts to seep out, filling in the grey in the sky
Wings unfolding to cover up the night, envelop, embrace
That's a part of me
I'm not me at times like this I'm better, rawer
More like myself
Peeled back, opened, and used up, my dark shell
Begins to fold itself away

I wish I could last forever
I wish I could touch the sky
I wish that I'd never fade
(Please at least remember me)

Color, color, all around
I'm painting the city, and shaking the ground
If I could have the chance to meet you all over again I'd take it
And show you who I am right now
Softly in the rain

Daylight encroaches now I'm me, I slip back under the veil
Now my fear is back again, creeping, dark
Softly in the rain
