Wattle Trees

I saw the wattle trees burn this winter
Their leaves a charcoal black
See they'd been swallowing all the water
Soon they'll be growing back

And I know you're bitter about everything
You breathe a sour air
But I've cleared a space here for you in the garden
For you to lay yourself all bare

So walk back down your beaten path
That you've come to know so well
You walk around with your eyes closed
'Cause you already know the stories it tells

And you are not surprised now
To see what it has left
And you can't make yourself turn around
So you bury the regret

Only you can save yourself now
All that can be said, has been said
May the springtime breeze bring you
Sweet peace and clear your foggy head

So pick up your boots
Let your hair loose
Don't put out all the stars

Drink the moonlight
Stay up all night
Float above the rainclouds
And only think out loud
Only think out loud
