I Do Believe

Singing songs of praise in chorus have always made me cringe
I don't believe in worship, I don't know any hymns
I don't pray every night to be touched by god's hand
I don't believe that I'm a part of any master plan

I don't believe there's anybody watching over me
But I do believe the dead are kept alive in memory
And that may not be much but that's all you'll get from me
I don't believe in god, but I do believe

I don't believe there's such a thing as love at first sight
'Cause love comes after getting to know who they are inside
These superficial lies we sell to children in their youth
I bet that no one ever thought to just tell them the truth

Hate is a familiar face in the world these days
And Prejudice is binding our society in chains
But I believe that we should try to be kind every day
Kindness won't fix our world but it's a starting place

The rich keep getting richer on the poor person's dime
But religion isn't gonna help me pay my rent on time
The Bible is the greatest work of fiction ever made
Its stories burn as tinder in a homeless person's flame

No I don't believe in god, but I do believe
I don't believe in god, but I do believe
