Runaway Bride
I caught up with my dad today
He had a lot of things to say
I can't recall a time that he talked more
He spoke of almost fifty years
Told me stories I'd been dying to hear
And I let him go on even if I'd heard them before
Remember that old car I had
The one I bought that made your grandma mad
I seen it today when I was letting the dogs back in
A young man was behind the wheel
He had a girl beside him with looks that could kill
As they drove out of sight it made me feel young again
Time's just a runaway bride
You can't make it stop but you can sure as hell try
If time's going to take its time then so am I
I came across some photographs
I kept the ones that only made me laugh
And that one of us all the one I thought I lost
I framed that one of you from junior high
These past few years it's helped me get by
How you hung in there when your momma and I could not
I've been having the strangest dream at night
Everybody there is dressed in black and white
I see them all in rows of chairs
I lift a veil I don't see nothing there
And I keep asking for the time
I hope I didn't keep you long
Now you know what's been going on
Besides all of that son when you coming home
That sun sure is sinking low
With that said he let me go
We both forget sometimes we're in two different time zones
