Fully Free
Splashing sounds surround me
Thrashing all around me
A cacophony in this chlorine sea
A half-century stands between us
Between me and all these screamers
This monopoly of the fully free
And for a moment
I'm fully free
A whistle blows, the din dims
Somebody yells "adult swim"
Suddenly, it seems it's only me
The shivering kids, wrapped in towels
They look at me
I think I hear one saying
"Look at him, Mom, look at him, Dad"
And then I'm pulled back to swimming class
Second grade
And I can see them laughing
"Look at him flail, look at him cry"
Then I paddle through a warm spot
Scale the ladder, grab my sun block
When the whistle blows, I've hit the parking lot
As they splash and soak, I'm in the Stop and Shop
By the time I'm home, it's all an afterthought
Thrashing all around me
A cacophony in this chlorine sea
A half-century stands between us
Between me and all these screamers
This monopoly of the fully free
And for a moment
I'm fully free
A whistle blows, the din dims
Somebody yells "adult swim"
Suddenly, it seems it's only me
The shivering kids, wrapped in towels
They look at me
I think I hear one saying
"Look at him, Mom, look at him, Dad"
And then I'm pulled back to swimming class
Second grade
And I can see them laughing
"Look at him flail, look at him cry"
Then I paddle through a warm spot
Scale the ladder, grab my sun block
When the whistle blows, I've hit the parking lot
As they splash and soak, I'm in the Stop and Shop
By the time I'm home, it's all an afterthought
