California

You looked at me that night I spent in California
The first thing you said to me was I'm not cut out for this life
Will you try to comfort me and love me cuz my mind is stuck

So we went out to the sea in a car that makes a van look like a truck
The waves crashed merrily on rocks at the base of the bluff
We stood on top quietly as the sun began to drop
Some bird squawked at me and my heart began to stop

First my would would freeze and my sadness having no counterpart
And my heart would lay heavy thinking about everything I have done

At least my lungs aren't burning like the city
At least my lungs aren't burning inside of me
