Horses in the Yard

I keep my diamonds in an old red barn
Beneath the rotting planks covered in cobwebs.
There I know they'll safely stay;
I save my brilliance for a rainy day.

I keep my time on a silver watch chain
Inscribed with a message I can't even read.
Try to see the world in every thing
And never care if it's the golden ring.

I grew up with horses in the yard:
A palomino with a golden mane and hide.
I grew up with horses in the yard:
A black stallion full of piss, vinegar, and pride.
I grew up with horses in the yard,
But I never learned to ride.

Find your wabi-sabi, yeah.
Find your wabi-sabi, yeah.
Find your wabi-sabi, yeah.

The tide came in then left while we were sleeping,
So the water always seems so low.
Everybody's sinking; no one sees the signs.
We're just treading water drinking wine.

I'll take half a page of scribbled lines
Over the average day with nothing at all.
So I plant another tree in the row.
I sit back in my chair and watch them grow.

I grew up with horses in the yard:
A palomino with a golden mane and hide.
I grew up with horses in the yard:
An appaloosa with clouds all along her sides.
