Spore

You may crinkle a leaf or a twig underfoot,
As you wander the forest alone.
And you sprinkle some seeds in this wondrous wood,
But know this is my ancient home.

And your footprints are covered as soon as they fall
With the passing of time from my clock.
For your story is brief, but I'll bring you relief
As I alter your world and your thoughts.

Look at me, you can see, on the floor, I'm a spore.
And my tendrils have spawned in the earth.
A network I weave you can barely perceive.
Yet the trees sing the song of my birth.
And I may hypnotize you, or might tantalize through
My blood flowing in your veins.
With your eyes fully open, your soul won't get broken.
But I promise you won't be the same.

Your mind is a pattern that simply evolved,
And delayed your conclusion a while.
It lets you see danger, but I'd place a wager
It hasn't helped foster your smile.

There are colors to see and chords that won't ring
With your thoughts tucked away in a box.
Come follow the rabbit as you truly inhabit
Enigmas from this pale blue rock.
