Ladder

One Monday morn
As I'm walking to work
I find a ladder
So tall it reaches into space.

So I jump onboard
Well why the hell not
I don't get paid a lot
And people report being lost every day.

One step at a time
There's concrete behind
Followed by clouds
As the sky blends from blue to black.

And my ears are now mute
But my eyes have adapted
To the vastness
And I feel I may be reaching the top.

So here I perch
Legs over the side
Nowhere to hide
I have the time to truly be alone.

And I ponder things
But not the kinda things
I thought I would
It's more the things I misunderstood.

And when you're up this high
Well the moon appears pink
At least I think
Or maybe now it's time I climbed down.

But before I do
I'll sing you some songs
It won't take long
For this is the first and there's only a few
So just sit back and enjoy the view.
