What I Forgot to Say
What I forgot to say last night
In between the words I typed
About what I believed
And all the answers that I thought you needed
When you told me about you life
I knew I didn't know what it was like
To feel like you weren't in the wrong
But somehow God messed up
In a world of pointed fingers
I didn't want to aim my own
So I danced around what I wanted to say the most
Like the ocean just goes on and seems to run into the sky
His forgiveness somehow wipes away the hurt you keep inside
It's the way we feel when no one else can see past our facade
That causes us to say the words that no one hears but God
Sometimes words get in my way
When all I want to do is just speak the truth
That's what I forgot to say to you
What I should've told you yesterday
When you asked for my life story
And what I thought about life
Now that I make all my own decisions
All the other things I said
About the what, where, how and when
My life turned out the way it did
And where I have arrived
I wish I'd shut my mouth a little more and let you speak your mind
Cause in the mix of all my words
I left the most important ones behind
Like the way we rise to greet the dew kissed ground another day
There is mercy new for every time
We fall broken on our face
It's the way we live that proves the worth of what we believe
And causes us to hold to peace
Or fear another chance to dream
Giving up to God is gaining so much more than you will lose
That's what I forgot to say to you
There's a love out there that was made with you in mind
What would it take for you to open up your heart
And step into the light
Like the way I say I'll love you
Even when the ground caves in
There's a God who sent His son to die
To call you His friend
It's the way the answer's always there
Even when we look the other way
You just can't deny deep down inside
There's an emptiness that doesn't fade
But God can take a broken life that's too far gone and make it new
That's what I forgot to say to you
In between the words I typed
About what I believed
And all the answers that I thought you needed
When you told me about you life
I knew I didn't know what it was like
To feel like you weren't in the wrong
But somehow God messed up
