Chain Cafe

How long have I been here
Soaked to the bone, and cradling some piece of you you left behind
Turn up my music
Stare at my screen and pretend I can't hear anything outside my headphones
As I sit in the chain cafe

We're twisted into something I can't recognize
But I will search until I find something familiar
But for now, I sit here
I watch the light fall from the sky glistening on the frozen cars outside

Watch the sunset through the window
Watch the sunrise from the road
I want to stop just for a moment
But I can only do as I'm told

I wanna forget about the cars waiting behind me
Like the people on their first date at the table beside me
But I know
Yeah, I know
That's not how this goes
Together the fragments floating in these waters form something worth fighting for
But apart, they mean nothing
Just driftwood floating aimlessly in an unknowable sea

People walk right past
It's getting busy, and I'm starting to feel like a boring museum exhibit
And the sounds that fill the air are just pieces of pieces of lies forming sentences
I should just stop acting like I've got everything coming
And it's only a matter of time
And I could just live here in this manufactured atmosphere
For as long as I want to live in all my own lies

Watch the sunset through the window
Watch the sunrise from the road
I want to stop just for a moment
But I can only do as I'm told

I wanna forget about the cars waiting behind me
Like the couple on their first date at the table beside me
But I know, yeah I know
That's not how it goes
Help me put it together
We'll sort through the millions, and narrow it down to the few
Let's gather our lies and we'll try our best to form something that is true
