Alibi

It's a sad world
When hard times
Are immediately followed by
"What's your fucking alibi?"
It's a sick trip
Trying to cope with
The parts of reality you notice

We desperately hang on
To anything that feels safe to us
We wish the world would disappear
'Cause our place in it isn't clear
With the thought of letting go
And drifting into the unknown
Fear grips you to the bone
Is your life really your own?

It's a sad world
When hard times
Are immediately followed by
"What's your fucking alibi?"
It's a sick trip
Trying to cope with
The parts of reality you notice

Maybe all these cultures
Were just invented to make the world feel less hopeless
You can mock their delusions
But hell, at least their lives seem a lot less confusing
And who am I?
Some objective observer of reality?
Like my biases aren't completely shaping everything
I'm doubting everything
Unsure of everything I think
And that's unsettling
I'm starting to envy the people who know everything
Well, they don't know everything
But believe they know everything
It must be settling

It's a sad world
When hard times
Are immediately followed by
"What's your fucking alibi?"
It's a sick trip
Trying to cope with
The parts of reality you notice
You notice
You notice
