At Eternity's Gate

I trapped my screams in a glass jar
And hid it on a shelf
To avoid ever reaching it by myself
Once I walked down I destroyed the ladder
Then, I found the way right to my bed
And travelled it for a long time
Everything came out all in one and
Five seconds passed in awhile

I am tired, I'd sleep but

I have this dream I can't give up
Every night, everytime:

Some time ago, among the banks of the Rhone
Again, I got lost
Where were you? I didn't know until the stars in the sky
Drew your sleeping look
All night long, I silently gazed at you, having a lot to say
But I did not speak a single word

I fell asleep in the night shade of the cypresses and I woke up at dawn, in a wheatfield
With my heartbeat synced to the falling rain
Later I walked all day the path that leads to the mouth of the river
Hoping to see you there, waiting for me

Now what is left but the wheezing of a pained old man?
An empty landscape at eternity's gate

To every raindrop that touches my skin
I associate a memory that never been
An image I previously saw in my dreams
If I dream at night
I dream of you, in form of light
Of that starry night
When I died at sunrise
