Growing Up

Yeah
Ayo bro, remember we grew up in the hood?

We didn't have much when we were growing up
The same clothes the same food we had to suck it up
We all shared the same room it wasn't up to us
A one bed room apartment that was our luck
Fulton school's up the block I didn't catch the bus
My grandmama praying that I don't become a thug
Cause we were living in the Stead we had to toughen up
And I was robbing local deli's just to fuel up

Needed food up in my belly mama working late
Always chillin in the street we didn't hesitate
I saw my brother shoot the heady that was everyday
Cause we were living in the jungle there was no escape
Baggy pant, beat shoes and a long shirt
If you were living on the floor then we were in the dirt
Yeah you probably saw us smile but we was really hurt
I guess that we were getting tired of living the worst
But it's okay we fought hard and we pulled through it
I learn to pray from my grandmama, I still do it
Yeah she knew she was dying but she kept moving
She had a battle with cancer and she aint lose it.

I only speak the truth this is real shit
Growing up the only dream I had was being rich
Cause people use to tell me that ill never be shit
It's dream big and get rich or pull clips
Man, this shit aint a game
You said you just like me but nigga we aint the same
All you niggas clout chasing yah would kill to reach fame
I want my mama out the hood to show her that life could change
Believe me
I remember we was broke and we aint have much
I moved to MD with my pops but I just felt stuck
He was always working late and coming home drunk
But after all the bullshit we always kept touch
I love you pops
Fuck the ops, the corrupt cops
They're tryin to stop the violence
But they never came to my block
The violence won't stop, all you see is bodies drop
Gun shots, scared to leave the crib so now I got a Glock
Stop, talking shit or you goin get popped
Don't you understand that in my hood its always been hot
You end up dead, getting robbed or end up getting locked
But I told my brother that some day i'll make it to the top
Thats growing up
