On the Mend

In desperate need of r.e.m.
Never dream, yet scared of them
In one which I emerge as vain
Or identify one, end the pain
Flaws and scars run all throughout me
Squint hard enough and you can see
In the mirror, a false reflection of the man I always wanted to be

I've tried to wipe my memory
I'd recommend you do the same
Sometimes you can point a finger
Sometimes there's no one to blame
It's hard to explain the feeling you get
Empty, deserted and nothing more
Aware of the present, yet oh so tempting
To see the other side of the door

I've felt and dealt my share of it, there was hurt, no need to pretend
I'm still here and I'm still breathing, and I mean it when I say I'm on the mend

You're not alone, just listen to me, this can be the hardest part
Think of all the ones you love, it'll help repair your heart
Don't lay a finger on yourself, it's just the demons you have to kill
You may never feel the pain of it, but your god damn loved ones will

I've felt and dealt my share of it, there was hurt, no need to pretend
I'm still here and I'm still breathing, and I mean it when I say I'm on the mend
