New Year

He works all week
In a place where he'd rather not be
But he's scared to death when he's driving home
He picks up the phone
And she starts to scream

He tries his best
To ignore all the pain in his chest
When they go to bed they just fall asleep
They rinse and repeat
While he's left to guess

And he accepts the love he thinks that he deserves ignoring the facts
He tells her he loves her and she chooses not to react

She feels so weak
Repulsed by the kiss on her cheek
Oh, and though she tries to paint on a smile
It just ain't worthwhile
He's too blind to see

She needs her Dad
He helps her when she's getting bad
But they're worlds apart and he cannot hear
When she sheds a tear
She misses her Dad

And in the end she holds his hand as if she had another choice
She tells him she loves him but doesn't recognise her voice

And filled with fear
In a whole new year
By the thought of all their lonely days
But the crowded room
Never felt so huge
(It was you)
He takes her hand and asks her to dance

And he says she's more beautiful than anybody he knew before
She tells him she loves him and he tells her he loves her more
