An Ordinary Love

I see them every morning
When I catch my morning train
And I don't know who they are
but they just lighten up my day
She holds her hand so tightly
As she gazes in her eyes
And the love that shines there brightly
is a caution to the wise.
There are not celluloid beauty
but they shine an inner light
There's contentment in their faces
When they catch the tain at night
There are not the world of people
to attract a stranger's stare
That love won't light the heavens
but I'd know it anywhere.

Is there no such thing
as an ordinary love
One that glows in embers
one that no one has to prove
I thank my lucky stars
You put a rainbow in my smile
This ordinary love has been slow
burning for a long, long while.

Love is just a feeling
and we humans can't control
Who it is we fall in love with
Where we open up our souls
These are not matters for judgment
but a simple human heart
For love is not a science
But a simple human art.

And every now and then
then embers burst into flame
When we remember where we've come from
we can go back there again
But it's the everyday of living
Loving laughing through the pain
That gives an ordinary love the room to grow.
