The Joker's Justice

A thousand souls were raised from their watery grave
On the day the tide surged loudly, through the crevices of the cave
To none who scream silent sounds – should the waves crash upon
But those who flaunt their faithless falsehood
Bear witness to the drum
That of the gallows, rhythm steady, sound and true
The raised heights of the shins of the crowd
Who stand and vaguely view
A coiled rope, most highly strung in a hangman's noose
Controlled by a single gloved hand – only to pull and let loose
With amazement, awe and apathy do the crowd cheer the name
Of the unfortunate fellow whose ears won't pierce
The sound of sound again
While in a golden chair, a man of authority does rest
He smirks and smiles at his handy work
The lie he won't confess
For surer than the ground the stage is firmly set upon
The fellow hanging down from the noose was an innocent one
So, now the pure are punished from a somber luck of draw
Due to the Joker's Justice most ignorantly called the law
