The War

Here in the mud is where I lay
And I don't know who died today
And as I lay here and pray
My best friend was killed today

On through the night and another day
The bombs still drop and here I remain
And in the morning I'll make my run
But for now I say to you son

Don't you cry for me
I fought for your life and liberty
And in the morning I'll make my run
But for now I pray to the son

Mama mama oh can't you see
What this war has done to me
Cut my hair and shave my face
Made me apart of the human race

And in the morning I'll make my run
But for now I'll wait for the sun
I rise in the morning to the smell of death
I look across the battle field there's no one left

I step to my feet with gun at hand
I'll fight to the end
For I'm a U.S. fighting man
And if I die in the combat zone

Don't worry mama for I'll be going home
