Evenings With the News

Time has been kind to him, I suppose
Though history, we shall see
It's a miracle he's survived this long

His suit is all torn, and it's creased to the bone
There is no use for it any longer
The smell from its last outing lingers

He's nothing much in common with himself anymore
A deathly silence falls in between
No excuse for excursions, no children to nurture
Only evenings with the news he used to make

Oh how he wished to erase
All of the horrors of days gone by
This violence is a touchstone of his youth

He's a sorry case, but it's the path he chose
For reasons he no longer knows
Such lousy shape to settle down in

The world has moved on, he's not built for these times
The messages he leaves are left in vain
But if there was a chance for another shot at life
Then perhaps history would be kind

But he's nothing much in common with himself anymore
A deathly silence falls in between
No excuse for excursions, no children to nurture
Only evenings with the news
Evenings with the news
Evenings with the news he used to...
Make
