Sojourn (Lost)

Oh great heavens above
I'm at the cliff that I was shown
So tell me now what I must do
And he's met with silence

Oh lost wanderer
That beckoned me forth tonight
Tell me now what I must do
And he's met with silence

Xine unfolds himself on the ground
Desperately trying to formulate a plan
He knows the area front to back
The only place unexplored is...

Xine stares over the cliffs
Soaring above the sea
He takes a deep breath
And begins his descent

He puts his feet firmly into footholds
His only safety net the ocean below him
And the rope he had just now
Realized that he had left back at his house

His foot slips out from under him
Sending a cascade of rocks tumbling into the sea
And Xine is only hanging on by his left hand
And it's slowly giving way leaving his nothing greater
Than the pebbles and rocks that came before him

He swings his right hand frantically above
Searching for a possible handhold
But he's falling now, straight towards the sea
Flailing and grasping manically
Hoping, just hoping that he catches a ledge-
And succeeds

He throws himself onto his ledge
His arms and hands bruised and torn
But all the pain fades away
As he glances up to where he fell

A tunnel within the cliff face
He must've uncovered the entrance to
Xine chuckles to himself
This is the sign that he had needed

Xine clambers to the entrance
Illuminated by pale moonlight
He takes a few cautions steps forward
As darkness envelops him
He stumbles through a winding pathway
Calling out to anyone for guidance
He's only met with the echoes of his voice
Taunting him with his own question

Xine continues to traverse blindly
The walls besides him his only companion
Then he notices a blue glow ahead
Straining his well-adapted eyes
He hurries ahead to investigate the source
To find glowing blue veins within the rock
Xine's in a full sprint now
Following the strange blue streaks of glowing light

He's met with a breathtaking sight
As the tunnel opens up into a giant dome
The ceiling is dotted with the same blue light
Mimicking the stars from the heavens above
Next xine notices the markings lining the wall
Still made from the same vibrant light
Xine makes his way over to investigate
To find that they're depicting a scene

Two figures are drawn on the surface
Side by side, they stand together
Between their heads, three liens are drawn
Connecting one body with the next
And Xine has to take a step back
As he tries to wrap his mind around this
He barely has time to process it
Before he notices the plethora of other engravings

An eye is shown, surrounded by strange lines
As well as a smaller, closed eye
Surrounded by the same, peculiar glowing lines
He doesn't notice it at first
But the orbiting lines are connected at certain points
And Xine still doesn't know what to take away
Two eyes, one opened one closed
With those same interconnected lines

Xine moves on to the next depiction
Showing the same open eye from before
This time surrounded by strange and foreign objects
Like an ovoid object seemingly on fire
Or towering rectangular structures
Like the ones he saw in his dream
And a plethora of other objects
That Xine can't even begin to describe

The next scene catches his attention quickly
As its the biggest of them all
A planet is depicted, with immaculate detail
But where trees and plaints should be
There's nothing but metal and lights
The planet's inhabitants denied its gifts
And foolishly began to supplement them
And Xine started to put the pieces together

The next scene depicts a group of figures
Gathered around a circular table
In the middle only an ominous vial
And what Xine thought to be a small plant
But there was a gaping hole in the center of it
And he thought to himself, about the glowing vial
Who would make such a terrible thing
What would deserve such a terrible thing

The next scene makes Xine's heart drop
Because he knows that he's seen it before
The piles of bodies, the fire, the smoke
And then he begins to put it together
The planet from his dreams
And the one depicted here are one and the same
But that doesn't answer the question
Of where it is, or how it led him here

The next scene depicts the two eyes again
This time, it shows one of those fire ovals
Moving towards the smaller shut eye
And Xine is tired of all of these fucking symbols
He doesn't want any glowing pictures
He just wants someone to comfort him
Someone to tell him what the hell is going on
And he turns his head to the next scene

And suddenly he knows
He understands
As he comes across an engraving of
Someone carving this very cavern

Xine comes to the next engraving
But this one doesn't have any pictures
It's just words, a set of instructions
They were left here by the creator of the caverns, the survivor from Eno
The dead planet Eno, thought to be deserted
But Xine doesn't know what to believe anymore
He begins to read through the instructions

Visualize yourself in your mind with nothing around you
Close your eyes, and eliminate all of your other senses
Focus solely on yourself
Let your mind wander
Relax, and note the changes to yourself
Note how the scene shifts, how the nothingness around you takes from
And when you're ready, open your eyes
You'll know it

Xine chuckles to himself
As the absurdity of everything crushes down on him
It's the middle of the night
And he found a glowing blue cave beneath his farm

He must be hallucinating
Ever since he saw that spark
He overexerted himself yesterday
And let his imagination get carried away

He makes his way out through the tunnel
Delirious and sleep deprived
And is greeted with the planet Eno
Hovering ominously in the distance

Xine chuckles to himself once more
He's already come this far
It can't hurt to play along
He closes his eyes and begins
