Infirmity

Disconnected
Yet so engaged
Countless folded flags
Could this hell be real?

I thought we were fighting for noble cause
Instead of senseless dominance
These battles all so pointless
Is this what I've become?

Is this reality?

A barrage of fire blazes by
Hit the floor and keep your head down
Daybreak comes and I grow more afraid

Of what's to come, so many have died
Lost more than what they'd hope to lose
Is this suicide or sacrifice?

Your choice

I've heard all of the cries
Of those born innocent
But slain in vein

Bloodstained hands, and endless tears
This internal battle summons all of my fears
I can't separate this world from oblivion

This is reality
This is the price we pay

We are the few lost souls
We are the wolves in the night
We are tortured and worn
Afflicted by our own minds

So now I write this letter
To commemorate those lives
Those who survived
And for all our brothers left behind

The scent of burnt flesh rises
As the skies fill up with ash
Wondering to myself
"Why did I choose this path?"

I can still hear the gunfire
The explosions all around
The shell shock haunts me

Gunfire rips through the air
Bullets pierce the skin
Comparable to thoughts within

How could anyone agree
With this mortal sin?
This era of infamy
Will set forth the tone

Will set the tone

For generations to come
For generations to come

A wasteland seen through bloodshot eyes
Has never seemed more peaceful
Until you notice the glint from a scope
Do you run, or do you stand and fight?

Do you stand and fight?

Stand up and fight
