Friendly Fire

I need to clear my heart from hate, before I speak my mind
Hate spewers, incels, stop committing these crimes

You sayin, all my life expended, I've been living this lie?

'Cause we've been going out to war, but on this spiritual high
Don't think for a sec that I've been smoking a joint
Disjointed, purloins, spitting bars that's on point

'Cause my imagination tends to get the better of me
The days of mobile phones and pagers got me thinkin '03
When I was hot, but not, so no need to bling the watch
I'm a light to the world, my eye got caught in a tree

Speaking of trees and planks, kill two birds with one stone
'Cause this rhyme making challenge just won't leave me alone
By my boy, yeah, you know, the one I tell to shut up
But all in love, and in jest, whom I'll always back up
I've got half a mind to call and start making a fuss
From music, and 'I love yas' to girls and breakups

Let me tell you of a time 'fore you could rock your X's
Prior to Instagram and texts, when you could still say, 'amen'
Despite my passion for these issue, imma keep this clean
Hey, forget it, 'oh he done it, he just causing a scene

Don't think for a sec my faith ain't sumthin' legit
'Cause if you hatin' just turn this off, calling it quits
I'd tell you my side, if you can commit
But a wise man once said, don't throw pearls to the pigs

Now listen, one thing that you'll know about me
Is that I try to spread, love and truth, that I've gleaned
From spiritual truths, to the love of our Lord
And why He never really intended us to live by the sword

I don't mean guns and bombs, but by your words and actions
'Cause the time will come when goats and sheep will split like fractions
It's the bigger issue, this ain't so much about me
It's about my siblings in Christ whom you left out in the sea

It'd make your knees shake, if you knew my story
Hell and back, hold your own, never knowing that you're free
I ain't preaching to ya, just trying to say this with grace
Because your kiss on my cheek feels like a slap in the face

Think you're above the human race? You preach in poor taste
Teaching doom and gloom theology is faith displaced
I'm not living my life to tear people apart
Lest my actions shown here are devoid of a heart

My claim to fame has been I'm too mad to bless
Like in church I've been told that I'm too self-righteous
For speaking my mind, yeah, you know who you are
You don't speak for yourself? Your point can't go too far

So don't hate, love your neighbour, what's so hard about that?
Seek the heart of the Lord so that our love won't go bad
In any case now, we've got mouths to fill
Bellies to feed, help the poor, no more time to kill

You think I'm preaching to ya? Well, I'm also preaching to myself
'Cause not seeing ourselves in others lends itself to distrust
