The Shepherd

I find the shell of the god I once was among the ash
Of bridges burned in the ire of the ones who sought my path
Worshiped above the infidels who, on me, would turn their backs
I call forward my disciples to bring about my wrath

I stand in awe of those who cling to their faith
As I seek to betray it each and every day
Fed by beliefs that should have gone away
I will remain as long as does their hate

When will the sacrifices they've made to me bring forth their end?
When will they tire of the endless culling of their friends?
When will starvation drive them back to sacred grounds they've reft?
I pray I'll see them tear their world apart 'til nothing's left

I'll feed upon the hope of those who've yet to bow to me
I will feast upon the bones of those who've yet to earn the power I seek
With every plague brought forth, with every tear they weep
I'll sate this thirst of mine for control over the weak

I stand in awe of those who cling to their faith
As I seek to betray it each and every day
Fed by beliefs that should have gone away
I will remain as long as does their hate
