Footprints
One night a man had a dream
He was walking on a beach with the Lord
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life
Memories of pleasure and pain that he'd stored
For every scene he watched he saw
Two footprints, side by side
One belonging to him, the other to God
Matching stride to stride
But sometimes along the beach
Only one set of prints could be seen
And the anger and confusion the man felt inside
What did this all mean?
And the man said
Lord, you promised you would walk with me
All the days that are planned
But in the times of fear and trouble
You seemed to let go my hand
Why didn't you stand beside me?
How can you call me your own?
How can you say that you love me?
When you left me to feel alone
And the Lord said
Oh now my precious child
How can you doubt my word?
And cast aside the promises
That you've so often heard?
Oh, now my son what you now say is far from true
For in those times of hurt and doubt
I carried you
Yes in those times of hurt and doubt
I carried you
He was walking on a beach with the Lord
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life
Memories of pleasure and pain that he'd stored
For every scene he watched he saw
Two footprints, side by side
One belonging to him, the other to God
Matching stride to stride
But sometimes along the beach
Only one set of prints could be seen
And the anger and confusion the man felt inside
What did this all mean?
And the man said
Lord, you promised you would walk with me
All the days that are planned
But in the times of fear and trouble
You seemed to let go my hand
Why didn't you stand beside me?
How can you call me your own?
How can you say that you love me?
When you left me to feel alone
And the Lord said
Oh now my precious child
How can you doubt my word?
And cast aside the promises
That you've so often heard?
Oh, now my son what you now say is far from true
For in those times of hurt and doubt
I carried you
Yes in those times of hurt and doubt
I carried you
