He was born beneath a tree that hid him from the sun
Roots grew through his bones like wires
And from the branches hung
Shaking his limbs in a dance with the wind
He remembered the moves
But he couldn't begin
Taking a step till a storm front moved in
And carried him far from his home

Drinking the light from the sun sparked a fire
That tempered his bones into steel
He dreamed of the dance he had shared with the wind
To a beat he could no longer feel
Twisting in pirouettes under the leaves
Never a question of who takes the lead
But afloat in the jungle he learned to believe
There's no freedom till you walk alone

As the trees lined his path with a haunted refrain

The melody curled up inside his brain
And held him beneath the stars
Deep in his dreams with the breeze it would play
And move through his legs till they started to sway
But they felt the freedom he couldn't display
To the sun, so he hid from the light

The path circled back to a place so familiar
He thought he had misread the signs
And curved towards a home he had tried to forget
And the dance he had long left behind
How did I get here
To the moon, he cried
I fell through your shadows and landed beside
The one place that I thought I never would find
It was only the wind that replied

Soft through the branches
It shook with a rhythm
That rocked him to sleep long ago
He held out his arms while the roots pierced his skin
And spiraled back through his bones
As they waltzed through the night
He remembered a song
That carried him through when he couldn't go on
And the symphony played while the trees sang along
