The Same God

I got a feeling in the core center of my heart
But when I tried to look at it, I left a mark
So then I told myself I'd never peek again
At the one who tells us that we're heaven-sent

So then, I was wondering where I would go
And then got caught up in the wilderness, oh my soul
Thought I'd be there forever, a dead-end for me
But then my redeemer came in and I woke from my sleep

And I don't know why but I can tell you how
When I was in the darkness I heard that sound
And when I turned, lightning flashed before my eyes
I heard a still small voice telling me that night

So I had all these questions about this new life
Cause I never knew this guy who's named Jesus Christ
So I picked up a Bible and my soul felt a wind
And when I read those red letters I ain't been the same since

Sooner than later I read those words every day
But I was questioning why I still felt the same
Then the good Lord told me that to die is to gain
So I gave my life to Him and picked up my new name

So I ain't gonna say that I have never fell short
Cause it's on those days that I say Lord I need you more
And the journey's been wild but it's been worth the way
Cause the Holy Spirit's been reminding me every day

In the promised land, I tell you I'm a new man

When folks tell us we're a bunch of hypocrites
We say it's faith over works, so take a hit

Here's something I've never said before
You don't gotta be perfect to please the Lord
We can only take action after having faith
So rise over religion and claim your new name
