When We Grew Up

Nine years old
Lived down a dirt road
3:15 School bus would drop us off
We'd run around to the back porch
Run around chasin' the dogs for a little while
We stayed outside til' the sun went down
Going wild

We didn't have a care in the world
Running through the crisp fall wind
Wasn't worried bout' no girls
I still remember when
We'd layout back in the moonlight lookin' up
Wondering what it would be like
When we grew up

Five years later
Living young and wild
We'd gas up a four-wheeler
Tear through fields on friday nights
Riding around rasin' hell for miles and miles
We stayed outside till the sun came up
Going wild

We didn't have a care in the world
Ridding through that summer wind
Started learning bout' them girls
I still remember when
We'd ride down some old backroad lookin' up
Wondering what it would be like
When we grew up

Five years down the road that ole barn is comin' down
I found a pretty little country girl who's finger I was wrapped around

I had every care in the world
Swinging in the crisp fall wind
Arm around a beautiful girl

We'd lay in the field in the bed of my pickup truck
Under the midnight stars fallin' in love
And we grew up
