Mother Is Coming

I am at the height of unrest
The glow of the tv has left me without sleep for years
And I drink for excuses. I fear that the muse has regret
For the effort it gave, and I know how it feels
I've watched complacency scratch at my heroes' heels
And whisper the lie, "There's nothing left to learn til you die"

The brick hit the window at noon
I saw the pain in my neighbor's eyes, and I knew they were scared
I heard christians justify crimes that I couldn't stomach to see
We inherit the earth and kill off the meek

Mother is coming
To cut off our fingers
Smother our natures
Mother is coming, Oh God, Mother is coming

We have been taught to view
The suffering of others through a purposeful lens
We need the Jesus that died on the cross
Just as much as the Jesus that died for our sins
We have the foresight of knowing if it wasn't them it was us
And changing that balance is dangerous

And I know there's blood on my hands too
There's so much more that I could do
In my desperation I hope earth reclaims
All that we've stolen

Mother is coming
To cut off our fingers
Smother our natures
Mother is coming, Oh God, Mother is coming

Let the oceans engulf our towers
Let the world militaries cower
Let us understand higher power

And the purple mountains will be restored to their majesty
All that we have built on their backs will be swept from their memory

Let the song belong to the birds
Let the time belong to the tides
Let the punishment live in their blood

All that we have built on their backs will be swept from their memory
