The Quiet Earth

The holocene extinction
We gave our doom its own name
No use denying we're dying
And we deserve it so
Try as we might, we can't put it
Out of sight, out of mind
I just hope I'll see beauty
In my dying moment
On top of a mountain under the stars
Reaching my hand into the darkness

And the quiet Earth will breathe a sigh of relief when we're gone
Our monuments erased by the sands of time

Such short tortured lives
Live and die in the blink of an eye
All our ambitions, our wants and needs
Mean nothing to the stars
We're part of an unbroken line
That will nevertheless be broken some day
The soul crushing thought that nothing will remain
Is too much to bear
So we turn to religion for some assurance
There is a purpose

And the quiet Earth will breathe a sigh of relief when we're gone
Our holy books erased by the sands of time

When the Sun engulfs the Earth
To the indifference of whatever is left
There will be nothing to show for
That we were ever here

And the quiet Earth will breathe a sigh of relief when we're gone
Our holy books erased by the sands of time
And the quiet Earth will breathe a sigh of relief when we're gone
Our monuments erased by the sands of time
