Honest Man Blues

Well, I picked up the morning paper, read all the bad news
Headed off to work tryna ward off the big snooze
This day's gotta be different, I know I'll make it, don't ask me why
I'm gonna make it today without somebody tellin' me a lie
This time'll be different
Surely the truth will prevail
Somebody's gotta be straight with me
Or has this whole world already gone to hell

I had to stop along the way to get some gas
The price was four times what it was only an hour ago
Supply and demand they say, there's no greed involved
There's an oil crisis out there, we just can't resolve
Record profits have nothing to do with it
Seems like you got a case of them, "Honest Man Blues"

Turned on the radio, I tried to make some sense of it all
It said it was the deadliest week we've seen since the war began
The President said, "Bin Laden's in Iraq, changed his name to Sadaam"
All our freedoms will be martyred
Before this whole damn thing hits bottom
Tell me, really, when we've finished paying with all these lives
What will we do to cure those, "Honest Man Blues"

Suddenly, it dawned on me, what I needed to do
I need to put my trust in God, and not let honesty die
To live my life in the light of the truth, and no surrendering
To live with all the righteousness my faith can render
So those, "Honest Man Blues" I'll embrace 'em forever
'Cuz when it comes to others, I don't think of myself as any better

Yeah, I know I'm gonna make it, don't ask me why
I'm gonna make it today without somebody telling me a lie
This time will be different
Surely the truth will prevail
Somebody's gotta be straight with me
Or has this whole world already gone to hell
Looks like you gotta a case of them, "Honest Man Blues"
