Prologue-The Art of a Vicious Individual
Lights from the camera flash
Look
Right foot, from the limo I emerge
Long way from home and it's all because of my words
Tonight I'm among stars, wife on my arm
Lights from the camera flash enhancing the Kid's charm
Red carpet, butterflies all over my stomach
My wife's cursing me for persuading her into coming
But we're here now, ain't no turning back
This is something we wanted way before I released my first track
So my nerves I suppressed
As she rubbed her body smoothing out the couple wrinkles on her dress
And we pushed on, loads of people yelling my name
Fans to paparazzi, I must be living a dream
I just smile and wave, I'm thinking I got it made
My wife smiles and waves, I'm thinking of how she stayed with me
How my mother told me she saw better days for me
How if my father was alive he'd be amazed of me
We hit the door, we hit the floor
And as soon as we hit the floor, we hit the applause
Clap, coming from all around
It was like rythm to my ears, the ultimate sound
Now I'm alive, feeling the vibe, my element's here
And I'm in it, complemented by one hell of a year
I'm all over the radio, shows in Ontario
Just the scenario of my latest career
Now I'm getting handshakes from everyone I looked up to
Aubrey Graham, Sean Carter, Marshall Mathers
Robbie Hall, Kendrick Lamar, even Common
Damn, to think a year ago I was only a common man
To think a year ago I was only a common man
It was only a year ago, that Avi was an adament fan
We were escorted to our seats, no urgency in my feet
I wanted to bask in it, the crowd was so fucking passionate
A standing ovation for me, and the way I took rap
Studied the greats, revised, then mastered it
We were led to the front row
Accompanied by dim lights and drum rolls
Champagne had everyone in a certain pose
They all took their seats as the curtain rose
Out came a man who resembled my father
But it couldn't be, he passed away when I was eight
But it was him, it was him in the flesh, him in a vest
Looking good, it was him at his best, he strutted
To center stage, looked over the crowd
Raised his middle finger, wiped the sweat from his brow
One more look at the crowd, took a look at his notes, cleared his throat
Than started to read the words that he wrote
We are all gathered here in celebration
Of one of the illest storytellers of his generation
He has single-handedly begin the regeneration of Hip Hop
At an incredible acceleration, you see
He understands rap needs change
And rap needs change whether or not the fans are ready
So without further ado, it's a pleasure to bring to you
The one and only Kid Avi
The crowd burst up with a roar, screams and cheers
I burst up in confidence, my wife in tears
I bent down to kiss her, told her we made it
Wiped a tear from her cheek, turned around and made my way on stage
I stepped to the podium, it was pandemonium
But as I looked to the crowd I could see no one
Except a crying baby in the front row
Holding a boombox in his lap, where the applause was coming from
And that's when I awoke in my bed
My son the crying baby in my head
My daughter's clapping along to a cartoon on TV
I guess she was the crowd, I was dreaming
But as I threw my feet onto the carpet
I couldn't help it, I kept replaying the scene
It felt so real, I swore that it was real
And that's when I decided I couldn't just let it be a dream
Look
